Winners announced for annual Lehighton parade
Julie Harris, chair of the Lehighton Area Halloween Parade Committee, has announced the list of winners of this year’s event.
This year marked the 53rd annual Halloween parade in the borough.
Harris thanked the Mahoning Valley Lions Club for donating and serving the hot dogs to all the parade participants; Zimmerman’s dairy for the drinks; More Pickles Please for donating the flowers, pumpkins and straw bales that were used to decorate the judges/viewing area; Pool Pals for being their “donation beggars” throughout the parade route; the volunteers who served as division marshals; fire police; judges Brad Cressley, Casi Reichard and Diane Hoffman; live announcer Kevin O’Donnell; Brian Hoffner, parade announcer along with TV 13; Chris and Dave from WLSH Radio; Lehighton Borough; and all the participants, the committee and the spectators.
Harris added, “It was a beautiful day for a parade. To all the firefighters from the five departments that unfortunately were pulled from the parade due to the brush fire, we thank you for dedication and service to our communities.
“I was very happy to see the streets, yards and porches packed with spectators. I would like to thank everyone who generously put money into our buckets which goes toward next year’s parade.”
Erin McGinley, parade secretary/treasurer, added, “I was happy to see so many new groups in this year’s parade. Many already said they are definitely coming back for the 54th parade. Hoping it is larger than this year’s.”
Harris said that anyone who would like to nominate someone for next year’s grand marshal should mail the name and reason why to Lehighton Area Halloween Parade Committee, PO Box 241, Lehighton, PA 18235. Volunteer work past and present is the key determining factor.
