Towamensing Twp. supervisors approves garbage fee increase
Towamensing residents will see a slight increase in garbage collection rates next year.
The township supervisors approved the 2024-25 garbage rates at the board’s monthly meeting. Rates are family, $295; single senior, $200; senior couple, $220; 100% disabled vet/active military, $200.
All the rates went up by $10 from this year’s rates.
In other matters, the historical society thanked the people who have helped out with the schoolhouse.
They requested a sign with the name of the school and the date constructed, which was approved.
It was also noted that they need help with priming and painting the outside.

In other business:
• The board accepted Deborah Fox’s property into the Agricultural Security Zone.
• A conditional use application hearing was held for the property at 2345 Summer Mountain Road. Approval was given for Annette Dawson to put a doublewide manufactured home on the property.
• Lorraine Barbella presented a letter to the supervisors regarding concerns about a property on LaBelle Place. Barbella was referred to the zoning board.
• A resident of Zieger Road spoke to the board about a new law, Act 88, that notes squatters do not have the right to take someone’s property. The supervisors noted that they are moving forward with this property, but cannot address legalities.
• Bids for heating oil and road materials were read. George’s Plumbing & Heating was awarded the heating oil contract. New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company was awarded the road materials bid for several types of materials, and Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction will be used for the others.
• Approval was given for the request of Palmerton for assistance from fire police for the Halloween Parade, which was held Sunday, and the turkey trot, which is Nov. 28.
