NL community collects for hurricane victims

The Northern Lehigh community was lauded by a school director on Monday for its role in collecting donations for victims of Hurricane Helene.

Director Robert Kern mentioned what the community has done for the victims of the hurricane by sending four tractor-trailer loads of goods, services, needs, for those in Tennessee that were affected by the hurricane.

Kern said kudos to Edward Yesik Trucking, Rentschler Auto Dealerships, Krackerjax Country Store, Aaron B. Kromer Notary Services LLC, Joe’s Place and many others.

He also thanked Caring Dam Hearts in Slatington, whom he said is “an organization that has been serving our community very well for a while.

“This organization collects goods, items, for those that are in need in our own community and surrounding communities and were an integral part, which is run by Denise Martinez,” Kern said. “Does a fantastic job, and it would be nice if we would support that endeavor as well.

“But, I just wanted to say kudos to our community, for reaching out, a small community of Northern Lehigh, reaching out to others. Four tractor trailers is a lot of things that are needed by those that are suffering.”

Director Gale Husack echoed Kern’s sentiment.

“The truckers did go down; my father-in-law was one of those drivers who donated his time as well, and the immense appreciation for the community in the Tennessee area was fascinating,” Husack said. “It was heartwarming.

“It was really hard for those drivers to get down there, and it was amazing the support and just thankfulness that those individuals down in that area had for those four truckloads of materials coming down. Couple things that were in there were things like chain saws, that we take for granted, and hay for animals because they can’t get to those people without putting stuff on horses and animals to get to people because the roads were washed out or they were no longer having the housing there.

“It’s really heartwarming and thankful for our community to have done that and donated the time, hours, two days, hotels, gas, donations from our community for those individuals. Ed Yesik Trucking, who reached out first on social media asking for the help and the rest of the community to really focus on that was really amazing.”
