Fire companies from numerous Carbon County communities are battling a stubborn brush fire in Franklin Township for a second day.

The fire was first reported around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon in a heavily wooded area between Long Run Road and Spruce Street. Smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles.

Firefighters are hampered by thick laurels and underbrush fueling the flames. Franklin township firefighters battled the fire overnight and now additional resources have been called including fire crews of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
