PSP Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:

• No one was injured in a “rear-end” crash at 11 a.m. Oct. 3 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said a 2009 Honda Fit failed to stop in time and hit the rear of a 2013 Toyota RAV4 that was making a left turn into a parking lot.

They said the Honda had moderate damage while the RAV4 had minor damage.

Police said the driver of the Honda was cited for operating a vehicle that did not have an official inspection sticker on it.

• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 9:53 a.m. Oct. 5 on Bartonsville Woods Road, Jackson Township.

Police said it happened when Vincent P. Kane Jr., 19, of Stroudsburg, was operating a 2003 Dodge Durango east when he veered to the right. The vehicle left the road and struck a PennDOT traffic sign before continuing to strike several boulders on an embankment. The Durango sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

Police said Kane was cited for the incident.

• Injuries were averted in a two-vehicle crash at 4:32 p.m. Sept. 30 in Burger Hollow Road, Chestnuthill Township.

Police said the crash occurred when Zachary M. Prokopczyk, 30, of Albrightsvile, driving a 2022 Toyota Corolla and traveling north, failed to stop and struck the rear of a 2022 Ford Explorer driven by David W. Bruckman, 42, of Effort.

Police said the Corolla had disabling damage and was towed from the scene. The Explorer had minor damage.

Police said Prokopczyk was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed while Bruckman was cited for driving an unregistered vehicle.

• Lakota A. Smith, 27, of Easton, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:22 a.m. Sept. 30 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad Ambulance Corps to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. They said the severity of his injuries was unknown.

Police said he was driving a 2018 Mercedes-Benz west at a speed too fast to negotiate a curve when he lost control. The car traveled off the roadway onto the left shoulder, went down a grassy embankment and began to overturn. Police said it is unknown how many times the car rolled over and said the driver was able to self-extricate from the vehicle.

The car was towed from the scene.

Police said Smith was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

• Francisco Hernandez-Rios, 57, of Tobyhanna, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 2:32 p.m. Sept. 24 on Route 715 in Jackson Township.

Police said he was driving a 2018 Kia that collided with a tree. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
