Lehighton Giant has new look, offerings

Some treated themselves to a tasty smoothie from the brand-new fruit bar.

Others traversed the aisles to check out the fashionable cases and stocked shelves in search of deals.

Based on the reaction from its customers, the grand reopening of Giant Food Store in Lehighton on Friday appeared to have surpassed all the metrics.

Bob and Deb Delp of Hometown said they typically shop at the store each week and were impressed with the store’s new look.

“We like it,” said Bob Delp, who praised the layout of the store. “We like the challenge of looking for deals from the digital coupons, and bonus points.”

Deb concurred with her husband’s critique as she picked out a container of coleslaw from the remodeled deli case.

“They have a lot of variety.” Deb said. “It’s phenomenal.”

Zach Wehr of Andreas picked up milk from the revamped dairy department and was complimentary of the more modernized look the store now sports.

“It’s convenient, close to home,” Wehr said. “It’s bright and easy to see.”

Kim Cann of Lehighton said she came out to purchase a birthday cake for her 3-year-old granddaughter. The cake was chocolate-flavored with a Snow White theme.

Anthony Palmer of Nesquehoning stopped by the fruit bar to buy a Mango Tango protein drink.

“I just left The Zoo (Health Club located inside the Carbon Plaza Mall) from a workout,” Palmer said.

Mark James of Lehighton scanned his groceries at one of the self-checkout registers and said he appreciates the store’s welcoming appearance.

“I like it” James said. “It’s more shoppable.”

Ashley Flower, manager, public relations for The Giant Company, said the store’s remodel included new For Today’s Table décor package; refreshed produce department with new fruit bar for smoothies; new cheese, dairy and seafood islands; enhanced prepared food and grab and go offerings including more space for presliced and prepacked deli items; refreshed health and beauty department; expanded GIANT Direct and more self-checkout registers.

Flower, who said the remodel took about 14 weeks to complete, added that the last time the Lehighton store had been remodeled was in 2014.

“The overarching goal of each of these remodels is to provide the very best of the Giant brand while providing solutions to simplify the shopping experience for our customers. Today’s families are busy.

“While we make it easy for them to grab what’s on their list, we also offer variety to inspire fresh meal ideas as well as prepared meal solutions when on the go. We think our customers are really going to love shopping at this store even more than they already do.”

Flower noted that customers have many choices when it comes to where to buy groceries.

“This remodel helps us further deliver on our customer promises and offer a one-of-a-kind shopping experience,” she said. “Our wide assortment of high-quality products at affordable prices and an array of convenience offerings, coupled with superior service from our team members and our long-standing commitment to being a steadfast community partner, has made us the grocer of choice in the communities we serve for more than 100 years.”
