Coordinator helps CCTI students

A Jim Thorpe woman is helping Carbon Career & Technical Institute meet its goals.

David Reinbold, administrative director for CCTI in Jim Thorpe, introduced Tara Benyo to the Joint Operating Committee on Thursday night.

Benyo serves as the student success coordinator for CCTI, and she joined the staff this past August.

Benyo’s work at several companies helps her with her current tasks.

“I always liked working with my staff, helping them to realize what they wanted to do, how to be successful.” Benyo said. “So, I always really liked asking: ‘What do you want to do in life? What do you want to be? What skills does it take to get there?’ And help them to do that in the adult world.

“It’s exciting to be part of the team here, where I get to do that with high school kids.”

Benyo meets one on one with students who are struggling with their grades or having attendance issues. She also coordinates the Wednesday after-school programs.

Benyo and her husband, Tim, live in Jim Thorpe, and also own the newly opened Hairy Guys Brewing, located at the corner of Second and Center streets in East Jim Thorpe. They have two sons who are on the Jim Thorpe Middle School football team.
