October 18, 2006 — Lehighton’s Hailey Neff takes first place in the Mountain Valley Conference Cross Country championships at Lehigh University’s Goodman Stadium, crossing the finish line in a time of 20:09. The Indian junior also won the race the previous year but betters her time by 23 seconds. The Pleasant Valley girls, coached by George Fair, gain the team title with two of its runners placing in the top-5. Melissa Kohberger finishes fourth and Amy Szarzynski ends fifth. Other area participants in the top-10 include Lehighton’s Cassondra Michalik (seventh) and PV’s Amanda Masullo (eighth). In the boys race, the Bears’ Jared Kneebone captures a second-place finish.
