Grief support
The Western Pocono Community Library has partnered with St. Luke’s Hospice to offer free monthly adult grief support. Sign-up is not needed and the groups are free and open to everyone.
The first group is meeting Oct. 16 from 1-2:30 p.m. Additional meetings for 2024 will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 13 and Nov. 27 (grief at the holidays session), and Dec. 11.

Soup sale
Effort UMC’s soup sale of stuffed pepper soup and chicken potpie ends today. Call the church at 570-629-1890. The pickup date is Oct. 27.
Free dinner
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is offering its next free community drive-thru pickup dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. today.

The Altar & Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen Of Peace Church is meeting at 6 p.m. today.
Shredding event
State Rep. Jack Rader has announced his sixth annual Shredding/Fall Clean up Day for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, at Pocono Raceway, 1234 Long Pond Road.
Included is not only shredding sensitive paperwork, but also disposing of old tires, expired prescription drugs; collecting cellphones, slightly used books and glasses/sunglasses.
Free license plate replacement service will be available but registration is required at RepRader.com/events or by calling his office at 570-643-7683 to provide and title numbers.
Middlecreek sale
Middlecreek Christian Church’s annual and rummage sale will be Friday, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturday, from 9 a.m.-noon.
There will also be fresh baked goods, quarts of soup for sale and the kitchen will be selling hot dogs and other treats.

SFRC needs
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is seeking donations of holiday foods including canned vegetables (corn, green beans, carrots, beets, yams, cranberry sauce, etc.), instant mashed potatoes and free turkey/hams.
Its next distribution day is from 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 26.
Ham dinner
Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is having its ham takeout dinner on Saturday. Dinner includes ham, filling with gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or upside down pineapple cake.
Pickup dinners, as well as ordered celery seed dressing, at the church is between 4-5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Chestnuthill seniors
The Chestnuthill Senior Center, meeting at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville, is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Family Fun Day
Effort UMC is hosting an open to community Fall Family Fun Day from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. There will be a pumpkin patch, games, community representatives, costume parade (both human and pets), trunk or treat and additional fun events.
Anyone inclined to help with the event by donating candy is asked to please drop off donations at the church office by Oct. 17.
Baby shower
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a baby shower the month of October to assist Shepherd’s Maternity House families.
There will be a cradle in the atrium to receive said the gifts.
Monday meeting
The Western Pocono Women will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in Wesley Hall at Effort UMC.
PVEN needs
Among the current Pleasant Valley Ecumentical Network needs are: food pantry — cereal, cranberry sauce, stuffing and canned vegetables; Clothing Closet — body wash and deodorant, dental care items for adults and children, bed sheets and comforters/blankets, and towels; Diaper Pantry — baby formula and baby food, (unexpired), bladder pads and adult sized pullups and bed protector pads.
Donations can be delivered to the PVEN on Route 209 east of Brodheadsville.

Trunk or Treat
Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, is hosting its first ever Trunk or Treat on Oct. 26, from 2-4 p.m. There will be games, costumes, doughnuts, cookies, apple cider and candy. There is no charge.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting its annual Trunk or Treat event at 2 p.m. Oct. 27. The church’s youth group will have a trunk.
Donations of wrapped candy can be dropped off at the church office.
Pie crust sale
Zion Lutheran Church is accepting orders for already rolled-out flaky homemade pie crusts in a 9-inch aluminum pie pan. Great for freezing until holiday baking. Pickup dates are Thursday, Nov. 7, from 1-4 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 10, from 9-11 a.m.

Fall Bazaar set
Layman’s Fellowship of St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is hosting its Fall Bazaar from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 2.
There will be a dine-in menu, raffle prizes, bake sale, soup sale, Pennsylvania Dutch auction and an introduction of North Pole Mercantile.
People can also order filling for Nov. 26.
Basket raffle
The Buena Vista Cemetery group is hosting a basket raffle at the West End Firehouse in Brodheadsville from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 2. The drawing will be at 3 p.m.
Pork & sauerkraut
Effort UMC is hosting a pork & sauerkraut dinner from 4-6:30 p.m. Nov. 2. For costs, call the church at 570-629-1890.
The meal includes roast pork loin, mashed potatoes, vegetable, applesauce, roll, homemade desserts, coffee, tea and other beverages.
The church is handicapped accessible.
Block shoot set
The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding its next block shoot and meat raffle Nov. 3, beginning at 11 a.m., at 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg.
It is a 12-gauge shotgun only event.
The public is welcome.
