A Lehigh Valley architect is interested in converting the former Mauch Chunk High School building on West Broadway in Jim Thorpe into a 17-unit apartment complex.

Ben Walbert, Allentown, is the interested party and he also requested borough council’s consideration in the matter of acquiring a large vacant lot directly opposite the former First Presbyterian Church structure.

Borough council members revealed residents of that area are very much concerned about the proposal, considering it will add to the already congested parking problem on Broadway.

Councilmen also said limited parking and the large number of small children in that section of town pose certain hazards which should be addressed before such a move is approved.
