Macungie Minstrelaires present ‘Big Band Swing’

The film, “The Fries Rebellion,” can be seen at the Bartholomew Center for the Preservation of Lower Macungie Township History at Camp Olympic barn 1-4 p.m. Sundays.

Lower Macungie Township is sponsoring a Halloween Bash for youth ages 3-10 years with parents 6-8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. There will be a costume contest with prizes, a DJ, games, drinks and snacks. Registration is limited.

There will be a free document shredding event sponsored by state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th, Delizioso Italian Grill and the township 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Lower Macungie Township building parking lot, 3400 Brookside Road. Residents can bring up to four bags or boxes.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Nov. 19 for Thanksgiving dinner at the community center. A ticket is required. Tickets for Christmas dinner Dec. 3 will be available.

The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Nov. 7 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. Dues will be collected; bring both cards. Christmas party tickets for Dec. 5 will be available. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon Oct. 23 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. The Macungie Minstrelaires will present “Big Band Swing” 7 p.m. Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 and 2 and 7 p.m. Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 at Lower Macungie Middle School, 6299 Lower Macungie Road, Macungie. Trick-or-treating in Lower Macungie Township will be held 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31. Some homeowner’s associations may have set alternate dates for their neighborhoods.

Zion Lehigh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8269 Spring Creek Road, Alburtis will have a Holiday Craft Bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2. There will be crafts, a basket raffle, bake sale, attic treasures and good food. Homemade food is available for eat-in or carryout.

There will be a Stuff the Truck event 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 2 at the community center parking lot. Habitat LV ReStore will collect kitchen/bathroom cabinets, newer, working appliances, furniture, lighting fixtures, hardware, windows, plumbing supplies and more.

The 14th annual craft/vendor fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the community center, 3450 Brookside Road. Over 100 crafters and vendors will be participating. Food is available 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The board of commissioners and staff are holding the 19th annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and more will be accepted at the community center through Nov. 27. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.

The community center will be collecting children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to Lehigh County Children and Youth Services. Collection bins are located in the lobby through Dec. 27.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet, and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Hours for November and December are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Curbside leaf collection continues through Nov. 29. Leaves should be at the curb before 7 a.m. Mondays.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.

Paws to Read will be offered 6-7 p.m. Oct. 17 and Nov. 14 for all ages. Lehigh Valley Pet Therapy Dogs and handlers will come to meet young patrons.

Creative crafts for ages preschool through grade 5 will be held 3:30-4:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Alburtis Community Center.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults 11 a.m. to noon Oct. 22 and Nov. 26.

Chit Chat & Craft Adult Craft Night will meet 6-8 p.m. Oct. 22 to make a calligraphy creation and Nov. 19 for the Art of Fall.

There will be a Night with the Addams Family for youth and teens 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 22. There will be a movie and spooky snacks. Costumes are welcome.

There will be a Classic TV Trivia Game for adults 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 23.

Comic Book Art with Bob McLeod for grades 6-12 will be offered 6-7 p.m. Oct. 23.

There will be a movie matinee for adults 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 24 featuring the movie “The Emperor’s Club.”

There will be a Teen Halloween Painting Party for grades 6-12 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Out of Our Minds Studio in Macungie.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 25 and Nov. 22. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

Builder’s Brigade for kindergarten through fifth grade will meet 5-6 p.m. Oct. 28 and Nov. 5 to create with Lego, K’NEX, Lincoln Logs and more.

Get in the Game for all ages will meet 1-3 p.m. Oct. 29 and 6-8 p.m. Nov. 7 to play games.

A Voice For All: Affordable Housing for adults will be held 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 30.

There will be a scam seminar 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 1 sponsored by state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th and the library. David Shallcross, director of senior protection from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, will speak.

There will be a Dino Dig with dinosaur experts Roberta and Mike Straka 2-3 p.m. Nov. 2.

There will be a home-school hour for grades K-5 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 4.

Books & Beyond will meet 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 4 in the library’s local history room to discuss “Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder and One Man’s Fight for Justice” by Bill Browder. The next meeting will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 9 for a discussion group.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 6 is “The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post” by Alison Pataki. The book club meets virtually.

The Teen Advisory Board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 to discuss books and programs. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

There will be a Sensory Game Day 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 12 and Dec. 10 for adults with disabilities and their caregivers.

There will be an adult program, Covered Bridges of the Lehigh Valley, 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 14.

There will be a Sensory Movie Matinee 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 19 for adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

The movie “Free Birds!” for youth and families will be shown 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 19.

“Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” Game Night for students in third grade through adult will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 21.

There will be a video game club meeting for grades 2-12 4-5:30 p.m. Nov. 25.

The fall book sale has been canceled.
