Herman W.D. Steigerwalt, Lehighton R. 6, was named “Citizen of the Year” by the Lehighton Area Chamber of Commerce during its annual banquet held in the Lehighton Elks Lodge

Steigerwalt was presented the award by Dean D.W. DeLong, chamber president.

Several other awards were presented during the program, including those to Edward Conarty Jr., volunteer of the year; Dr. Jerry Bailey, businessman of the year; Chris Simock, educator of the year; Susan Graver and David Rakos, students of the year; and the Carbon County American Red Cross Ambulance Corps, service group of the year.
