State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Jarih O. Martinez-Fermin, 33, and Vanessa J. Chevere, 40, both of Frackville, had serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 10 p.m. Sept. 14 on Interstate 81 in Delano Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency & Rescue Squad to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Martinez-Fermin was driving a 2011 Mazda southbound when it went off the left side of the road, hit a ditch and continued on the south shoulder, where it struck a tree and then rolled over, coming to rest on its roof, police said.
Police said Martinez-Fermin was cited after the crash.
• Renee L. Hruniuk, 43, of Delano, had serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 7:35 a.m. Sept. 27 on Route 54 in Ryan Township.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency & Rescue Squad to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale.
The crash occurred as Hruniuk was driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla eastbound when it left its lane of travel and struck a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia driven by Carolus H. Sterckel, 65, of Moncton, Nebraska, police said. He was uninjured.
Both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene.
Police said Hruniuk was cited after the crash.
• Thomas J. Smith Jr., 47, of Barnesville, was uninjured in a hit-and-run crash at 5:09 p.m. Sept. 16 on Route 54 in Ryan Township.
Police said the crash occurred when a late model pickup truck traveling east attempted to pass Smith’s 2016 GMC Terrain, striking it and fleeing the scene. Police said the Terrain had minor damage and was towed from the scene.
• A 17-year-old Tamaqua boy was in injured in a one-vehicle crash at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 30 on Wildcat Road in Walker Township.
Police said he was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Lumina southbound when he lost control of the car on a left curve. The car hit an embankment before overturning onto its roof, police said.
The car had to towed from the scene.
The teen was cited after the crash, police said.
