Senior Center

The Panther Valley Senior Center announced the menu for Oct. 14-18.

Monday: Center closed

Tuesday: Roast Pork, Mashed Potatoes, Cabbage with Apples, Cookie or Salad with Beef

Wednesday: Baked Fish, Macaroni and Cheese, Wax Beans, Pineapples or Harvest Chicken Salad

Thursday: Stuffed Chicken, Parsley Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts, Pudding or Turkey and Cheese Sandwich

Friday: Spaghetti and Meatballs, Vegetable Blend, Fruit Salad or Rachel Sandwich

The senior center also announced the following events.

Center closed on Oct. 14; Birthday Bingo on Oct. 15 at 10:45 a.m.; Po-Keeno on Oct. 16 at 11 a.m.; Skeeball on Oct. 17 at 11 a.m.; Horseracing on Oct. 18 at 11 a.m.

Yahtzee on Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.; Bingo on Oct. 22 at 10:45 a.m.; Name That Tune on Oct. 23 at 11 a.m.; Po-Keeno on Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.; Movie and Popcorn on Oct. 25 at 10 a.m.

Cards, Pool, Games, available daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. New members are welcome.

Historical society

The Nesquehoning Historical Society’s regular membership meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Oct. 15.

Summit Hill Historical Society

The Summit Hill Historical Society will hold a special presentation of “Uranium in Carbon County” at 6 p.m. on Oct. 16.

The presentation, which will sort fact from fiction about uranium in the mountains, will be presented by local history expert Vince Hydro.

Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. so people can browse the museum and local artifacts. There will also be an uranium glass display for viewing pleasure.

The historical society is located at 1 W. Hazard St., Summit Hill.

Panther Valley Library

The Panther Valley Public Library will hold Fall Story Hour for children ages 3 to 5 on Oct. 16 and 30; Nov. 6 and 20, and Dec. 4 and 18, beginning at 10 a.m.

There will be a story, craft and light snack. To register a child, call the library at 570-645-3780. The event is free.

Medicare help

Appointments are now available at the Panther Valley Public Library, Summit Hill Heritage Center and Panther Valley Senior Center in Nesquehoning for seniors looking to save money on Medicare and prescription plans.

Appointments through Carbon County Area Agency on Aging will help individuals make the best decision on prescription plans for them.

Appointments are from 9 a.m. to noon at:

• The Summit Hill Heritage Center: Oct. 16, 23 and 30; Nov. 6, 13, 20 and 27; and Dec. 4.

• Panther Valley Library: Oct. 18 and 25; Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; and Dec. 6.

Appointments from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at:

• Panther Valley Senior Center: Oct. 22 and Nov. 19.
