Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 9

Pleasant Valley’s girls soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a key victory on Wednesday.

It was a day that saw the Bears also post wins in volleyball and boys soccer action.

Elsewhere, Tamaqua got a big win in girls soccer action, while Olivia Costa reached a scoring milestone in a Northwestern field hockey victory.

GIRLS SOCCER

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley clinched the EPC Mountain Division championship with a 2-0 shutout victory over Stroudsburg.

Morgan Ryals scored the Bears’ first goal in the first half, while Elli-ana Sheckler tallied their second goal in the second half.

Royce Thompson scored two goals for the Bears, while Zach Prator had two saves.

Olivia Costa posted a career milestone with her 100th career point, as Northwestern cruised to an 11-0 Colonial League victory over visiting Lehighton.

Costa posted five goals and two assists for the Tigers, who finished the regular season undefeated in the Colonial League.

Teammate Cara Thomas followed with a hat-trick and an assist.

Palmerton started its season with a win at home over Northern Lehigh, and capped the regular season with a 4-0 Colonial League victory over its rival on the road.

Senior Mikayla Pengelly finished with two goals and an assist for the Bombers.

Teammates Ali Green and Tessa Sander, both juniors, also scored.

Pleasant Valley prevailed for a 3-2 win over Eastern Pennsylvania Conference rival Stroudsburg.

The Bears compiled a total of 41 kills, with Rylee Ruggiero (23) and Laura Ballek (11) both leading the way.
