Walker appoints trooper’s wife to planning commission
Walker Township appointed the wife of a late state trooper to the planning commission seat vacated when he died suddenly in July.
Walker Township Supervisor Craig Wagner read from a letter submitted to the township by Trooper Peter K. Conforti Conforti’s wife, Dr. Alexandra (Wagner) Conforti.
Conforti, Craig Wagner’s daughter, requested to fill the position.
“Pete never committed to anything unless he was going to give it his full attention,” the letter read.
Dr. Conforti will serve the remainder of the term, which ends Dec. 31, 2027.
Road work
Road work will be done on Catawissa Street this week. The road will be closed for a time while a drain pipe is replaced. Workers will then be back on Wednesday for the main work.
Schuylkill Paving Inc., of Schuylkill Haven, is doing the road work in the township, having been awarded the contract in August.
Crews also did some work, putting down stone on Kettle Road and Church Lane.
Road Safe Traffic Systems of Hazleton will be doing line painting in the township.
Township President Craig Wagner thanked Heisler’s Egg Farm for paying to have a drainage pipe replaced near their farm on Catawissa Road.
“They paid to dig up the pipe and reset it, and got it all filled in at their expense,” Wagner explained. “That was very nice of them; we just want to thank them.”
