5K walk/run promotes suicide awareness

It’s called the “Run for Hope, Walk for Change 5K,” a donation-based event. It’s an annual 5K designed to help raise awareness and money to help in suicide prevention. All money raises is donated to the Bo Tkach Foundation.

The event was held recently at the D & L Trail, the Jim Thorpe Trailhead.

“In the past (2021 and 2022) the Notch Eight Running Club sponsored the run,” Kathy Goldberg said. “Several people reached out to me in 2023 looking for the details. Kimberly Sargent and I decided to keep the light on and handle the event on our own.”

Last year, they raised $500. This year, despite the rain and less runners and walkers, they raised $750 to go to the Bo Tkach Foundation.

The first place winner was Andrew Sargent.

Sponsors for the event were: Goldberg Plumbing, Molly Maguires Pub, Charles X Block, Peggy Sue O Donnell Foundation, DeeZines Flowers & Gifts, and Chrissy and Mike Mayernik.

“Many thanks to our incredible sponsors for making this event possible,” Goldberg added, “and to all the participants who braved the weather with us! Your support means the world to us.”

The Bo Tkach Foundation’s mission is “to create awareness for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and other mental health issues while providing essential funding for youth athletic programs, scholarships and otherwise inaccessible individual mental health screening and treatment.”
