October 1, 1953 — Tamaqua builds a big halftime lead and cruises to a 33-13 victory over Coaldale before over 6,000 fans at Lansford’s field. Blue Raider quarterback Ed Adams runs for two touchdowns and throws for another for the winners, who lead 21-0 at the break. Adams reaches the end zone on runs of two and five yards and also tosses a 10-yard TD strike to Johnny Matruder. Bill Feathers records the game’s first score on a 16-yard run, while Luther Miller adds a 1-yard TD plunge. Tamaqua’s defense also comes up big with four interceptions, two each by Percy Satoris and Miller.
