A Schuylkill County man who shot and killed his son Saturday morning is jailed on $250,000 cash bail.
John F. Gustites, 67, of Sheppton, is charged with third-degree criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.
State police at Frackville were called at 8 p.m. Saturday to assist East Union Township police in the death investigation of John A. Gustites at 31 Franklin St.
According to police, the younger Gustites was chasing a cat around the family home and when his father went to his room to retrieve the cat, the younger Gustites demanded that his father give him the family car.
An argument ensued and Gustites retrieved a revolver and entered his son’s bedroom. Police said his son grabbed a screwdriver and the gun went off.
Police said Gustites said he doesn’t remember pulling the trigger.
Gustites didn’t immediately report the incident. He called emergency services after spending the day watching religious videos.
He was arraigned by on-call district justice David Plachko and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison. State police were assisted by East Township, Mahanoy City, Frackville and Shenandoah police.
