Schuylkill Technology Center sets open house
Schuylkill Technology Center will host open house events at its North Campus in Frackville and South Campus in Mar Lin from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 2.
The events are an opportunity for prospective students, current students, parents, industry partners and postsecondary college partners to come together to experience what career and technical education has to offer.
The theme for this year’s event is “Your future starts here,” to highlight the vast array of opportunities available to alumni.
According to center director Shannon Brennan, 46% of center graduates enter industry, 44% go on to attend postsecondary or trade programs for advanced training, 6% enter the military, and the remaining few are undecided at the time of graduation.
At the South Campus, visitors can tour the plumbing, welding, carpentry, residential industrial electricity program, precision machine trades, auto collision, culinary, computer information systems, marketing and business administration, criminal justice, logistics and cosmetology programs. The school will have hands-on activities in each program area available for prospective students to get a better sense of the type of training they will receive.
At the North Campus, visitors can tour the diesel, automotive technology, outdoor power technology, masonry, carpentry, electromechanical technology, health careers, emerging health professionals, health careers, culinary and early childhood care and education programs. The center will also showcase the new heating, ventilation and air conditioning program scheduled to launch in January.
Adult education program staff will also be on hand to meet with prospective adult learners who are seeking training in CDL, welding, automotive technology, medical assisting and practical nursing.
The event is free and open to the public. A FireTV and STC T-shirts will be raffled off to prospective students who bring their invitation postcard.
The STC Culinary Programs will have food for sale in both buildings.
