Palmerton woman celebrates 105 years

It was a day full of gifts, flowers and balloons.

But, for Edith George, it was yet another occasion to mark another trip around the sun.

George celebrated her 105th birthday earlier this month at Scenic View Personal Care.

Flanked by staff and residents, George commemorated her special day with a celebration on Sept. 5.

A mere two days later, George had the opportunity to celebrate with family and friends.

Born in Lower Towamensing Township (then called Smith Gap), George has been at Scenic View since 2022.

She married Harlan George at a young age. The couple was married 74 years before Harlan passed away in 2012.

George worked at Blue Ridge Sportswear as a sewing machine operator for 40 years before retiring

After retiring, she and Harlan liked to travel, and she liked to quilt.
