Route 309 in West Penn township was closed due to a serious motor crash Wednesday morning. The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. as a male driver was traveling north at the intersection with Blue Mountain Drive when he drove under the rear of a construction truck. The victim was extricated from the wreckage by members of the West Penn Township Fire Company. He was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning Ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a nearby trauma center. The New Tripoli Fire Company established a landing zone at the intersection of Routes 309 and 895 but the medical transport helicopter declined due to weather.
