September 23, 1972 — Jim Thorpe’s defense allows just 109 yards of offense and comes up with three turnovers to help the Olympians gain a 13-0 Lehigh-Northampton League Southern Division victory over Palisades. Thorpe, coached by Barry Hackenberg, receives a pair of touchdowns from Mike Clewell and Mike McHale to gain the win. After a bad snap by the Pirates on a punt attempt in the first quarter gives the Olympians good field position, Clewell reaches the end zone on a 5-yard run. In the second, George Lazorick tips a pass on defense and Nolan Wernett intercepts the ball, setting up another JT scoring drive, which is capped by McHale’s 3-yard run.
