Lehigh Valley writers group to meet on Saturday

Greater Lehigh Valley Writers’ Group will hold its monthly meeting from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday. The meeting is offered in a hybrid format — in-person at the Palmer Branch of the Easton Library, 1 Weller Place, Palmer Township and online via Zoom.

From 11 a.m. to noon, Angel Ackerman, author, journalist, and owner of Parisian Phoenix Publishing, will give an overview of author newsletters. Ackerman will look at the ways to approach an author newsletters and how to disseminate it (email vs. blog vs. delivery templates like MailChimp vs. Substack). The program will include an in-depth exploration of Substack and its potential as social media, newsletter and potential revenue stream. There is no fee for the morning program. Registration is recommended, but not required.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Ackerman will lead a workshop focused on launching a newsletter in Substack. Participants will learn how to set up their own Substack and some basics about how the web-based interface works. Participants are welcome to bring their laptops and create a Substack account if they wish. The workshop is free for members.

Ackerman spent 15 years as a print journalist, and has also worked in public relations, program design, social media, grant writing and development. She founded Parisian Phoenix Publishing with her graphic designer best friend in 2021.
