Carbon County is gearing up for a busy presidential election.
Last week, Jennifer Ketchledge, elections director, reported that things are going well.
“We aren’t having any major issues down at the election office,” Commissioners’ Chairman Michael Sofranko said during the monthly county election board meeting.
In preparation of the upcoming election, Ketchledge and the county has been discussing heightening some security with the sheriff’s office for the elections office on Election Day.
“It is a very emotionally charged election,” Sofranko said, adding that in addition to security measures, the county is also is addressing a concern in the parking lot between 44 and 76 Susquehanna St. buildings due to dark areas.
He pointed out that currently, the lack of proper lighting could make for a tripping hazard to poll workers so the maintenance department will be putting additional lighting on each of the buildings and focusing them out toward the parking areas.
The last day to register to vote in the upcoming General Election is Oct. 21.
