The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling southbound on the Northeast Extension in Lehigh and Bucks County that there will be an early morning road closure this weekend due to a bridge replacement project.
To allow for beams to be safely erected as part of the replacement of the Tilghman Street bridge, the Northeast Extension is scheduled to be closed to southbound traffic from around midnight to 6 a.m. Sunday between the Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Quakertown (Exit 44) interchanges.
The following suggested detour will be in place:
• U.S. Route 22 East, 0.5 miles.
• PA Route 309 South, 2.0 miles.
• Interstate 78 East, 6.2 miles.
• PA Route 309 South, 9.2 miles.
• PA Route 663 South, 3.2 miles.
• Reenter at Quakertown Interchange 44.
Northbound traffic will not be impacted. Pennsylvania State Police and turnpike personnel will be positioned at the affected areas to assist drivers. Digital message signs will also provide information on this closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
To report an incident or other emergency on the turnpike, dial *11 via mobile phone.
