Turnpike INCIDENTS

State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• Temurjon R. Rakhmonkulov, 27, of Brooklyn, New York, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 10:17 a.m. Sept. 15 at mile marker 95.3 in Kidder Township. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2024 Volvo southbound and was exiting at the Pocono Interchange when the vehicle overturned, landing on its passenger side and skidding for about 12 feet before coming to rest against the guard rails.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Police said he was cited for having a unsecured load and for driving too fast for conditions.

• No one was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 3:40 p.m. Sept. 13 inside the Lehigh Tunnel in East Penn Township.

Police said the crash occurred when a 2019 Nissan Rogue operated northbound by Donald J. McMonagle, 30, of Philadelphia, was changing lanes and was struck by the front end of a 2022 Hyundai Sonata driven by Harry Williams, 68, of Dundalk, Maryland. Police said both vehicles were able to be driven out of the tunnel. The Sonata was later towed from the scene.

• Police said an unknown vehicle struck and knocked over a light post on the northbound exit ramp at the Hickory Run Service Plaza, mile marker 86.3, in Penn Forest Township.

The incident occurred at 7:28 a.m. Sept. 11. The driver left the scene.

• Ivan Michailoff, 38, of Slatington, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:31 a.m. Sept. 10 at mile marker 79.5 in Franklin Township.

Police said he was northbound in a 2014 Toyota Prius when a deer ran across the road and struck the left front end and bumper/grille area of the car.

The vehicle needed to be towed from the scene, police said.

• A speeding motorist at 1:58 p.m. Sept. 8 near mile marker 81.4 in Penn Forest Township caused three other vehicles to be involved in a crash.

Police said an unknown type gray sedan traveling south at a high rate of speed abruptly swerved into the left lane, almost striking a 2010 Toyota Prius driven by Rajat K. Bhalla, 37, of San Francisco, California.

They said Bhalla applied his brakes and lost control of the Prius, which struck the concrete barrier, traveled into the left lane and hit a 2024 Nissan Rogue driven by Gerald Padden, 63, of Whitehall, in the rear.

Police said the impact caused the Rogue to overturn, during which time it hit the rear quarter panel of a 2020 Acura operated by Bruce De Jesus Quijano, 28, of Freeland.

Police said Bhalla had minor injuries but did not require a medical transport by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association. Padden and De Jesus Quijano were uninjured.

Police said the Prius and Rogue were towed from the scene.

• Matthew D. Craigie, 20, of Jim Thorpe, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 5:55 p.m. Sept. 8 at mile marker 111.7 in Plains Township. He was uninjured.

Police said he was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck northbound when it left its lane for unknown reasons and hit an embankment off the right shoulder of the road.

The truck had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

• Two people had minor injuries from a two-vehicle crash at 12:10 p.m. Sept. 7 at mile marker 81.8 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said Sherri L. Peterson, 52, of Dalton, and Kylie L. Nash, 35, of Scranton, were transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township. They were passengers in a vehicle driven by Eric L. Peterson, 62, also of Dalton.

The crash, police said, occurred happened when a 2017 Honda Civic operated by Lauren A. Appolonia, 26, of Yardley, traveling south, was passing a 2013 Honda Pilot driven by Peterson. The Civic began to hydroplane, traveling into the other lane and striking the Pilot, which then hit the concrete barrier, police said.

The Civic had minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene, while the Pilot had disabling damage and required towing.

Police said Appolonia was cited after the crash.

Both drivers, as well as a passenger with Appolonia, escaped injuries.

• Earl R. Jackson, 30, of Norristown, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 2:24 p.m. Sept. 3 at mile marker 90.3 in Kidder Township.

Police said he was cited for driving without a license.

They said he was operating a 2009 Ford Fusion southbound when its rear passenger side tire blew out, causing him to lose control of the car. It struck the center concrete barrier, continued to cross both travel lanes and struck a mile marker sign.

• Christian Wells, 22, of Allentown, was cited for disorderly conduct after police made a traffic stop at 7:17 p.m. Sept. 17 at 687 Interstate 476 in Washington Township.

Police said he was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 truck that had an expired registration on it.

They said Wells provided fictitious information to them regarding his identity and the vehicle was also not insured and displayed a fake inspection sticker on it. The truck was towed from the scene.
