RESPONSE TO LETTERS PUBLISHED

Dear Editor,

Sometimes I feel like that little Dutch boy who put his finger in the leak in the sea wall to hold back the sea, only in my case it is against the sea of ignorance and lies. On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Times News printed three letters.

One repeated the trope that insecure men always use against women who are smart or in leadership positions, from Joan of Arc to Margaret Thatcher. They slept their way to the top. The Trump campaign apparatus has been pushing the lie that Harris is incompetent. Many men just can’t accept that a woman can rise to a high office on her merits. It’s time these men grow up.

A second letter said, “There are states that are signing up illegals to vote and that is against our laws.” It is against the law, but no state is signing up “illegals” to vote. That is a lie. Not a fib. Not an untruth. An outright lie.

The third letter said, “In1963 when JFK was assassinated nobody was held LEGALLY [sic] responsible much like the attempt on Trump’s life.” Since both of the shooters in question were killed, I’m not sure what more punishment could be imposed. Perhaps we could dig up their bodies and mount their heads on a pole like the English did to Oliver Cromwell.

I have to admit, it was a banner day for letter writers.

Sincerely,

Roy Christman
