Credit union building progresses on 443

Construction on a credit union set to move next to the stand-alone Starbucks along Route 443 in Mahoning Township continues to advance.

Crews are currently on scene actively working to build the First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union. The credit union inside the Carbon Plaza Mall plans to move to the former Country Harmony site.

Last month, supervisors approved and signed the First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union development agreement and stormwater maintenance agreement.

Victor Kelly, executive vice president of Larken Associates, which owns the Carbon Plaza Mall, said then that the credit union should be ready to open in about seven months.

The Country Harmony store closed in April 2023, and it was demolished to make way for the credit union.

A single-story, 2,614-square-foot building will include drive-thru lanes, 18 parking spaces and would use the revised entrance from Route 443 to a new connection to the mall.

This would mark the second time in less than a decade that First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union will move. The Lehigh Valley based credit union moved the branch from South Seventh Street, Lehighton, into the Carbon Plaza Mall in 2018.
