The Summit Hill Borough Council has been informed by the Department of Mines and Mineral Industries that it will backfill an additional section of the abandoned Summit Hill strippings.

The new section to be backfilled is west of the Summit Hill stadium and will extend approximately 60 feet from the field in a westwardly direction.

The notification came in the form of a letter to Rep. John “Ike” Bonner, who was instrumental in having the first backfill project south of Holland Street completed at a cost of $20,721.

The new project is expected to cost about $14,000, according to Lewis E. Evans, secretary of the state department.
