Zimmerman captures player of week award

Each week the National Football Foundation-Lehigh Valley Chapter selects a high school football player of the week from its 34 local high schools.

Players who receive an award will be guests at the 65th Annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet on March 2, 2025.

For Week 2, the player of the week honor went to Northwestern’s Eli Zimmerman for his performance against Wilson. The senior ran twice for 89 yards and two scores. He also added a reception for nine yards and a touchdown.

Zimmerman also added a punt return for 43 yards, which resulted in a touchdown and tied him with Northwestern’s all-time record holder — Coach Josh Snyder — with three career total punt returns for touchdowns (in Week 3, he had another punt return for a score to break the record).

On defense, he had an interception. The interception (his 14th overall) also tied him with Coach Snyder for second place on the all-time Northwestern list.

Zimmerman only played in the first quarter, and the first play of the second quarter, and did not re-enter the remaining part of the game.

The other winners this season were Notre Dame’s Matt Bodnar in Week 1, and Nazareth’s Peyton Falzone in Week 3.
