Route 115 construction sets detour for northbound traffic

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation began Stage 3 of the Merwinsburg Road Realignment Project on Route 115 on Friday.

The project involves the realignment of Merwinsburg Road with Route 115 and includes line of sight improvements at the intersection of Astolat Road and Route 115.

The southbound traffic on Route 115 will pass through the work zone during Stage 3, while the northbound traffic will be detoured.

According to the plans, car traffic headed north will use Route 715, then turn left onto Sugar Hollow Road. That will bring them to Route 115 above the construction area, where they can turn right onto the route.

Truck traffic will be detoured to Route 209, where it will turn right onto Route 534, then right onto Route 903 until it connects to Route 115. There, trucks will turn left to continue onto Route 115.

Traffic in the Evergreen Hollow Road area will take Evergreen Hollow Road to Hillcrest Drive, then to Effort Neola Road and onto Route 115.

The detour will last two to three months. In Stage 4, traffic traveling south will be detoured, while northbound traffic will pass through the work zone.

The construction project began on April 1 and is expected to be completed on Aug. 1, 2025. The project is expected to cost $5,716,000.
