CTC Manufacturing offering screen printing, custom items
CTC Manufacturing, located at 100 Hazle St., Beaver Meadows, temploys people with different skills with disabilities.
Christine Mayernik, CEO, said the business is offering screen printing, embroidery and vinyls. It also offer services including assembly and packaging, commercial sewing, and apparel sales and detailing.
CTC is eying growth, fueled by one of its strengths.
“Our sewing department is excellent, and we know there is an affordable alterations gap, and many must drive out of town for alterations and the prices are too high,” Mayernik said. “We wanted to offer this service to our community and create more work for our employees. …
“Our first need is, we want to launch affordable alterations in a way that is managed. Our second need is, we need some manufacturers.”
Mayernik noted that CTC recently hired Autumn Traylor as director of vocations and business development.
A Moravian College graduate, Traylor is tasked with launching the addition of the affordable alterations leg of the business as well as increasing the number of employees, according to Mayernik.
At present, the business has 31 employees, she said, about half of whom have disabilities.
“We are an integrated workforce on a mission to double the number of adults with disabilities that work for us,” Mayernik said. “To do that, we are working hard to find new accounts to work with CTC.”
As a nonprofit, the business generates its own revenue to cover the majority of its costs, while a small amount of funding comes from the state to help with disabled employees, Mayernik said.
“We hire employees with disabilities and have been doing so since 1971,” Mayernik said.
Mayernik identifies strengths and challenges in each employee and said she said “matches” each task to that employee’s skill level.
In 2021, its 50th year in business, CTC Manufacturing was honored as Carbon County’s Business of the Year.
Mayernik said the business has a strong track record, as evidenced by the many employees who stick with it.
“People love it there, they retire there,” she said. “We just want to do more of it.”
