At a special meeting on Thursday night, Penn Forest Township supervisors discussed fees charged by the Jim Thorpe Area School District for use of its high school fields.
Supervisors believe the fees are too high, putting the burden on youth program parents.
As an example, the Knee High Football program program’s use of fields costs could be over $1,000 a day for four home dates.
Penn Forest’s park has a full schedule hosting primarily soccer in the fall, so could not help the youth football program, but the park committee have concerns.
A unanimous vote will send these objections along with park committee members and individual supervisors to an upcoming Jim Thorpe school board meeting.
The park committee meeting will be moved to the 25th, because the regular meeting on the 18th is when the School Board meets.
Regarding the township park, the Jim Thorpe Elementary School Fun Run will be welcomed on Oct. 13. An application was received, and all is in order.
It was agreed to buy three tires and a rim (to make a spare) for the utility trailer from Snyder’s Tire.
An informal inquiry about having township fire police direct traffic on Route 903 and Maury Road on foliage weekends was discussed.
Supervisors are not in favor of this. It was noted that Jim Thorpe has a private company hired to direct traffic.
With no formal request, there was no more discussion.
