NCC to host breast cancer coalition photo exhibit

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition is partnering with Northampton Community College and the NCC Hispanic Caucus for the opening of the photo exhibit, “67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania.”

The exhibit, which is timed to coincide with the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, will be on display at the Bethlehem campus in the Laub Lounge from Saturday through Sept. 22.

A free reception will take place at 11 a.m. on Sept. 19 in the Bethlehem Campus Laub Lounge, located in the College Center Building, second floor, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem.

Light refreshments will be served, and students will have the opportunity to write a message to a recently diagnosed breast cancer patient.

This unique exhibit features individuals from each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, along with photos and quotes about how breast cancer has touched their lives.

The survivors and thrivers in the exhibit exemplify the diversity of Pennsylvania, and their messages reflect the impact breast cancer can have on families and communities across our state.

The photo exhibit also encourages women to learn the importance of breast cancer screenings and early detection.

Breast cancer screenings are a central focus of the PBCC, which recently advocated for the passage of Pennsylvania’s Act 1 of 2023. Act 1 eliminates all costs associated (including copays, deductibles, and coinsurance) with breast MRIs, breast ultrasounds, and BRCA-related genetic testing and counseling for Pennsylvanians at high risk insured under state law.

The PBCC photo exhibit is made possible by a partnership with the PA Department of Health, which offers free mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition, a 501(c)3 organization, represents, supports, and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy, and breast cancer research grants.
