Lehighton Area School District had an increased police presence at its high school on Thursday following a Safe2Say tip received Wednesday night.
According to a phone call from administration to parents, the tip concerned “a potential threat that was circulated on social media regarding the high school.”
“Administration and LASD police immediately contacted the state police, Franklin Township police and Lehighton Borough police,” the call stated. “The threat is being thoroughly investigated and we are monitoring the situation.”
Last week, the district alerted parents after an empty shell casing was found on the high school grounds. The incident resulted in a working lockdown so the area could be searched further.
Lehighton officials said Thursday the safety of students and staff is a top priority.
“As always, we encourage students and parents to report anything they find concerning,” the call said.
