Coroner IDs man killed in Route 209 crash

The identity of a man who died in an incident Monday morning on Route 209 in Tamaqua has been released.

Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David Moylan III said the deceased is James McDonald, 45, whose address was listed as homeless. Moylan said McDonald was pronounced dead early Monday morning.

Moylan said a postmortem CT scan to determine the cause and manner of death conducted was scheduled for this afternoon at the Schuylkill County Forensic Center, New Philadelphia.

Borough police said they were dispatched to the area of 1299 East Broad St (Route 209) at 4:35 a.m. for an incident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

Police said upon arrival they found a man laying in the roadway. He was deceased.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative with police.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Route 209 between Tamaqua and Coaldale was shut down for about 2-1/2 hours due to the incident.

Tamaqua fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.
