Pedestrian dies on Rt. 209 in Tamaqua

A pedestrian died in an incident Monday morning on Route 209 in Tamaqua.

Borough police said they were dispatched to the area of 1299 East Broad Street (Route 209) at 4:35 a.m. for an incident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

Police said upon arrival they found a man laying in the roadway. He was deceased.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative with police.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Police said the identity of the man had not been confirmed as of press time. They said they are working with the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office to get that confirmation.

Route 209 between Tamaqua and Coaldale was shut down for approximately 2-1/2 hours due to the incident.

Tamaqua fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.
