Walker Twp. discusses upcoming projects
Walker Township discussed several projects to be done to the road Thursday night.
At a special meeting held Aug. 1, the bids for the upcoming road project were opened. The bidders were: Construction Master Services, $39,93.60; Lehigh Asphalt, $44,757.40; Ronnie Folk Paving, $40,912, and Schuylkill Paving, $36,345.
Because there was not a quorum at that meeting, the bid was awarded at a meeting on Aug. 15, awarded to the lowest bidder, Schuylkill Paving Inc. of Schuylkill Haven.
Bids for the line painting work to be done were received at the September meeting. The bids were based on 88,000 linear feet of lines to be painted.
The three bidders were: D. E. Gemmi 15.6 cents per linear foot; Guidemark, 18 cents per linear foot, and Road Safe Traffic Systems, 11 cents per linear foot.
Council awarded the contract to the lowest bidder, Road Safe Traffic Systems of Hazelton. The total is $9,680.
The line painting will be done as soon as possible, but no date has been set.
Several local residents expressed the need for Kettle Road to have work done due to a large amount of potholes and gullies on the road.
A three-part project to fix Kettle Road was stopped after the first part when the grant was not approved for phase two.
An application is being resubmitted for the upcoming grant.
In the meantime, supervisors and Roadmaster Chad Felty will be looking at doing some temporary repairs to the road until the Kettle Road project can be resumed.
