The Lehighton United Veterans Organization will host a Sept. 11 memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Upper Park Amphitheater in Lehighton.
Lehighton UVO Commander Kevin “Spike” Long said the ceremony will be “a time to pause, reflect, remember and never forget.”
“The 9/11 memorial service is held to remember, and never forget that fateful day,” Long said. “Our world, and nation, changed forever after this historic date.”
Long added, “what seems the norm now, wasn’t the norm 23 years ago. The loss of life of innocent people who were just going on with their lives.
“The subsequent events that ensued after over 20 years of war on terrorism, more stringent security measures nationally and globally. Families forever impacted by the needless loss of life.”
Long continued, “We must ensure that no mater what, that we as a nation never forget. If we don’t remember, and learn from our history, it may truly repeat itself.
“It’s a time to be thankful for our military, police, fire and first responders who in time of need run into the danger, while others flee from it. Always remember, and never forget.”
Long said the speaker will be an Afghanistan veteran, retired Lt. Col. Dennis J. DeMara, 213th RSG, PAARNG,
