Pleasant Valley School District called for a remote instruction day Thursday morning due to a threat.

Superintendent James Konrad said, “We received a very generic Safe2Say tip regarding a safety threat and out of an abundance of caution, Pleasant Valley School District will be operating on a remote instruction day. We are working with state Police to ensure the safety of our district.”

Trooper Anthony Petroski III, the public information officer at Troop N, said, the school district had contacted the Pennsylvania State Police after receiving Safe2Safe entry.

“Troop N Fern Ridge is handling the criminal investigation into the threat. We are also providing assistance through our Bureau of Emergency and Special Operations, K-9 Division, who will conduct a sweep of the building for safety concerns. Any further updates will be disseminated later in the day,” Petroski said. “I would also urge people to be aware that information will be spread through social media. We want people to know that all updates will come from PSP Troop N.”

The threat follows a shooting on Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia near Atlanta, where two 14-year-old students and two teachers were killed and eight students and one teacher were injured. The 14-year-old shooter was apprehended. News reports say he and his father were questioned by law enforcement last year about online threats to commit a school shooting.
