Nesquehoning park closed as work begins for upgrades

A park in Nesquehoning is closed as renovations are set to begin.

The Johnson and Jacobs Memorial Park, located on West Railroad Street, was closed Tuesday so that work could take place.

The park will remain closed until renovations are completed. The anticipated completion date is set for the week of Oct. 14.

Last month, Nesquehoning Borough Council awarded the park renovation contract to LB/DB Construction in the amount of $162,854.

Council had scaled the project down after previous bids came in approximately double what council had secured in grants.

The project had been in the works for several years, but delays due to higher bids kept pushing back the work.

Nesquehoning officials have been working on updating several parks in the borough, most recently installing electric to the New Columbus park to allow for future events to be held.
