Palmerton Band playing favorite songs

The Palmerton Community Band is scheduled to perform from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the bandstand at this year’s Palmerton Community Festival.

Director Joe Plechavy said the band will do some selections from the August concert because they didn’t have that concert.

Plechavy said the band will perform “Old Vienna,” “Washington Post March,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Mary Poppins” and “Medley from Mulan.”

“This year’s performance will be partially directed by Mitchell Hourt,” Plechavy said. “I’m hoping that he’s going to take over.”

The tradition of concerts in the park dates back to 1911, when Stuart Prutzman became leader of the newly organized and incorporated band.

Plechavy said the band is always looking for more members, and that anyone interested may call 610-360-8343.
