Weisstock delivers fun in Weissport

The fourth annual Weisstock is in the history books. Despite the cloudy weather, many people came out to enjoy the food, games, rides and more, and finish off the summer season with a bang.

“This year, we have more food trucks and more vendors,” said Nicole Baker, one of the founders of Weisstock. Baker is also director of St. Peter’s Resource Center in Franklin Township. The resource center and the Weissport Event Committee share the profits from Weisstock each year. The festival was held Friday and Saturday in Weissport Borough Park.

“We also continue to have live entertainment, contests and more,” Baker added.

A section of the park was dedicated to first responders this year. Members of the Lehighton Police Department and Mahoning Valley Ambulance were there to share information about their services and to greet the public.

“We were invited to participate, and we wanted to come out to support the festival,” Lehighton Police Chief Troy Abelovsky said. “We are also here to promote the National Night Out. We will have nonprofit organization vendors, food trucks and demonstrations by the various police departments and fire companies that will be there. We are hoping to have a helicopter landing, too.”

National Night Out, which was postponed in August due to bad weather, will be held Oct. 1 at Baer Memorial Park in Lehighton.

“We’re happy to be here to spread the word and present information to the local residents,” Detective Matt Arner added. “We plan to raise funds at National Night Out to fund our Shop With a Cop program this year.”

At Weisstock, some of the popular contests were held again this year. Levi Coulson of Lehighton won the Limbo Contest, Shania and Spanky won the Karaoke Contest, and Barn Door Pizza was the winner of the Best Pizza in Carbon County. Eric Miller of Lehighton won the pizza eating contest.

Local bands 7th and Mahoning, Sick Whisky, Devin Warnkin and Suddenly Found entertained the crowds both days.

Food vendors this year included Taste of Soul, Race to Taste Curbside Grill, Parryville Volunteer Fire Company, AK Farms, The Southern Affair, Kitty Kat Concessions, Coastal Cravings, Lehighton Area Band Boosters and People’s EC Church.

Gombert Family Games provided rides and games for the kids.
