Palmerton Girl Scout promotes reading with little library

These days, it seems almost normal to download a book onto a phone or Kindle and read it that way. For Abby Kuhns of Kunkletown, and a member of Girl Scout Troop 3506 of Palmerton, it’s a much better experience to hold an actual book.

Kuhns, with the help of her parents, built two “Abby’s Little Libraries” and installed them at two parks in Lower Towamensing Township.

The first was set up at Stony Ridge PARC on Fireline Road.

The second is Aquashicola Park on Pine Street behind the Aquashicola Volunteer Fire Company. She built the libraries for her Girl Scout Silver Award.

“I’m really big into reading,” Kuhns explained.

“I like reading, and I want to encourage more reading in the community for adults and children. It’s good to open a book, sit down on the bench, and read. It’s better to have an actual book in your hand instead of a screen.”

People are welcome to take books and bring books to donate at either little library, and any type of books is welcome, for children and adults.

Kuhns is now looking into her next project to qualify for the Girl Scout Gold Award.
