Lansford’s American Fire Company No. 1 is purchasing the First Presbyterian Church and plans to have it demolished to create a parking lot for firemen.

The church is located on Bertsch Street, just west of Springgarden Street and is at the rear of the fire company garage and the borough hall on Patterson Street.

Final services in the 74-year-old church were held Jan. 31 and the doors were closed as the dwindling congregation merged with the First Presbyterian Church of Summit Hill into the First Presbyterian Church of the Panther Valley.

The cornerstone of the church was laid on April 5, 1901, and the service of dedication took place in Sept. 15 of that year.
