Beauty without the beach; New tanning business offers services in Palmerton

They seek to help their clients create glowing skin, gain confidence in themselves, and relax and unwind.

Beach Bronzed Tanning Salon at 324 Delaware Ave. in Palmerton is a family-owned and operated business that opened April 1.

“Our salon offers a clean, relaxing and professional environment where we aim to enhance your skin’s appearance, help you look and feel younger, and offer a sanctuary for relaxation and unwinding,” said co-owner Dana Krische.

Krische, of Lehigh Township, delved into the services the salon offers clients.

“Our selection includes high-quality UV beds, with four laydown options and one vertical stand-up bed, to meet all tanning preferences,” she said. “Additionally, we provide an extensive assortment of lotions for UV/Outdoor tanning, moisturizers and skin care products. Our UV BleachBright Kit is also available to brighten your teeth as you tan in our beds, bask in the sun outdoors, or relax at home.”

Krische said most of her clients hail from Palmerton, Lehighton and Jim Thorpe on this side of the mountain, but added that efforts are being made to highlight the other side, including Walnutport, Slatington and beyond.

“We constantly seek feedback to understand our clients’ likes and dislikes, as well as their positive or negative experiences in our salon,” she said. “This information is crucial for identifying areas of improvement and ensuring that their experience with us is nothing short of excellent.”

Krische said the nearest tanning salons are located in Brodheadsville or Whitehall, and that while local spas, gyms and hair salons may offer tanning beds, there isn’t a dedicated tanning salon that specializes exclusively in tanning services.

“Our aim is to create a clean, relaxing and professional environment where clients can enjoy the best experience and achieve optimal tanning results,” she said. “We are dedicated to ensuring that you receive the high standards we set for ourselves.

“Our goal is to deliver natural, healthy-looking tans to our clients. We are committed to providing this service at an affordable price, ensuring that every client leaves our salon feeling happy, confident and at their best.”

Previously, Krische said she owned clothing stores for a decade and closed her final store in Palmerton one month before the COVID-19 pandemic led to widespread shutdowns. Since then, she’s been a stay-at-home mom.

“I was certain that if I returned to work, it would be either to run a tanning salon or to work at a winery,” she said. “Having tanned for 23 years, I cherish the relaxation and rejuvenation it provides.

“After extensive study, I earned my UV Tanning Certificate from Smart Tan, making this salon Smart Tan Certified. I am committed to continuous learning, regularly engaging in courses, trainings and webinars.”

In her spare time, Krische serves as the head of fundraising for the Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company, where her husband, Brian, is assistant chief. Brian also manages the salon in Dana’s absence and is co-owner.

Krische said the business is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Starting in April, their peak season, she said they will extend their weekday hours until 8 p.m.

Since they are a walk-in establishment, no appointment booking is necessary, as a staff member will always be available at the desk to greet and assist anyone who comes through their doors, Krische said.

“We provide a variety of memberships and packages customized to meet your unique needs, aiming to assist our clients in achieving their ideal tan,” she said. “Our salon consistently participates in ongoing training to stay abreast of the newest trends and techniques. A superb tan offers more than aesthetic appeal; UV light has been known to alleviate depression and anxiety, address skin conditions, enhance mood, and strengthen the immune system.
