PennDOT looks to fill temporary jobs in Carbon district
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation hosted a job fair Thursday at the PennDOT Carbon County Office in Lehighton.
Visitors, learned about the various opportunities that were available.
“I’m just looking for a long-term career,” Bret Stover of Weatherly said. “Job security with trucks and automobiles, construction, interest me.”
District and county employees were also on hand to answer questions about employment and assist attendees with the application process.
Kevin Kull, county maintenance manager, said that PennDOT is looking to fill a variety of positions in Carbon County, including operators with a commercial driver’s license and auto and diesel mechanics.
“We’re looking for temporary workers to fill our complement for our winter season,” said Kull, who added the county’s winter season is from mid-October through the end of March. “We had three candidates come in (as of 11 a.m. Thursday) for the operator positions, and we’re looking for candidates to fill our winter season.”
Kull noted that when they get hired as temporary winter operators, people would then be eligible for full-time work once those positions open up, and that also applies to the diesel and auto mechanic positions as well.
“It’s the first step in securing full-time work,” he said. “They go through the interview process, if they’re selected for a temporary position that can ultimately lead to a full-time permanent position with the department.”
Applicants were asked to bring an updated copy of their resume. CDL operators also were asked to bring their current driver’s license and medical card.
Applicants can see the current available positions by going online to www.employment.pa.gov.
