August 30, 1981 — Palmerton edges Danielsville Edgemont Tavern by a 4-3 score to capture the championship of the Walnutport Softball Slo-Pitch Tournament. Twelve teams participated in the tourney, which saw the Slatington Eunies take third place. Denny Rehrig captured MVP honors after going 12-for-14 in the tournament with four homers. Other members of the winning team included Reds Hardy, Ted Beltz, Manny Guedes, Gus Guedes, George Kutta, Rich Perich, Jerry Pereira, Jerry Kresge, Mike Mazepa, Dave Saunders, Mike Herb and Randy Smith.
