Tamaqua Seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Aug. 22, with 20 members present.
President Jean Machamer opened the meeting with the invocation. Four members were added to the sick list.
The seniors received a donated secondhand refrigerator from a Jim Thorpe couple who read about the need in the newspaper. The seniors appreciate their thoughtfulness and are grateful for the donation. A businessman from Tamaqua picked up and delivered the refrigerator.
Refreshments were served and the meeting closed. Bingo and cards were played.
The seniors meet at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is welcome.
Andreas VFW banquet
The Andreas VFW will have its Patriots Banquet at 6 p.m. Sept 14 at Kneppers Inn, Route 309, West Penn Township. All paid up members and one guest are invited.
The banquet is by reservation only by calling 750-386-2133. Deadline is Sept 8.
Rummage sale
St. John UCC, 150 Pine St., Tamaqua will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept 7 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9. No reasonable offer will be refused.
Donations for the sale are being accepted by the church.
Calvary Lewistown
Calvary Evangelical Church of Lewistown Valley will have Sunday services at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday school at 9:15 a.m. at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.
There will be 6 p.m. Sunday service with The Taylors of Delaware at the tabernacle, as well as 7 p.m. services Aug. 30.
St. Peter’s West Penn
The Sunday worship service at St. Peter’s will be held at 9 a.m. followed by adult Sunday school at 10:15 a.m.
Tuesday is the first day of preschool for 3-year-olds, and Wednesday is the first day for 4-year-olds.
On Sept. 5, the Cherub Choir meets at 6 p.m. and the Senior Choir meets at 7 p.m. in the social hall.
The Fall Festival will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sept. 6 and from noon-7 p.m. Sept. 7.
On Sept. 8, the 9 a.m. worship service is Rally Day, and there will be Holy Communion. The installation of Sunday school teachers and officers will also be held.
Zion Church Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. Communion will be included during the service. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.
Rush, Ryan and Delano Seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens met on Aug. 27, with 35 members present.
The president opened the meeting with the invocation, “You’re Always There.” Four members were added to the sick list.
A summer basket was chanced off and won by a member. Refreshments were served.
The annual Christmas party will be held beginning at noon Dec. 10 at Capriotti’s, McAdoo. Members should bring items to be chanced off at the party to the Nov. 1 meeting.
Members played bingo.
The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 10 at Christ Church, Barnesville.
